Dental Implants

What are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is a small titanium fixture that sits in the jawbone and acts like an artificial tooth root. Once it integrates with the bone, we attach a connector (abutment) and then a custom tooth (crown) — or in some cases, a bridge or denture attachment. The aim is a replacement that feels stable, functions well, and is planned to suit your bite and gum health.

When Implants may be considered

Implants may be discussed if you have:
One or more missing teeth
Difficulty chewing, or you avoid certain foods
A denture that feels loose or unstable
A preference for a fixed replacement (when suitable)
Adequate bone and healthy gum foundations (or the possibility of building them)
Suitability can only be confirmed after a detailed exam and appropriate imaging.

How the process typically works

1. Assessment & planning — we check gum health, bite, medical factors, and take the right imaging to plan safely.
2. Prepare foundations (if needed) — sometimes this includes cleaning, extraction, or bone/gum grafting before implants.
3. Implant placement — the implant is placed in a controlled, planned position. Comfort options are discussed beforehand.
4. Healing & integration — this phase varies (often weeks to a few months), depending on bone quality and whether grafting was required.
5. Final tooth (crown/bridge/denture support) — once ready, we fit the restoration and fine-tune your bite.

Benefits people often look for

A stable, secure feel
Better chewing function (compared with a gap or loose appliance)
HelpsHelps maintain bone in the area over time
Doesn’t rely on neighbouring teeth for support (unlike some bridges)
Can support multiple teeth when planned as part of a broader solution

Smile transformation with Implants

(Example case shown for illustration. Outcomes vary between individuals and depend on starting tooth condition, gum health, bite forces and maintenance. Treatment shown may include more than dental implants. Photos are of a real patient, unretouched, taken under similar conditions where possible.)

Important considerations

Outcomes and healing times vary between individuals.
Not everyone is a candidate — bone levels, gum health, smoking/vaping, diabetes control, and oral hygiene all matter.
Implants still require daily cleaning and ongoing maintenance reviews.
As with any surgery, there are risks (we’ll explain these clearly, alongside alternatives).
If you grind/clench, we may recommend a night guard to protect the work long-term.

Is this right for you?

A consultation is the most reliable way to answer that. We’ll assess suitability and talk through options in plain English.
